Where in Guelph are you located?

We are at 155 Suffolk St. West, Suite 118, Guelph, ON N1H 2J7.

Upon entering the building from the entrance facing Yorkshire St., N., go up the immediate set of stairs, and the office door is on the left!

Is your driving school approved by Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO)?

Yes. Royal City Driver Training is an MTO Approved BDE (Beginner Driver Education) Course Provider proudly serving Guelph and the surrounding areas for the past 22 years.

When can I take the G2 road test?

If you take our MTO approved course, you can take your G2 road test 8 months after obtaining your G1. Otherwise you must wait a minimum of one year before taking the G2 road test.

Will I get a discount on car insurance by taking your course?

Upon successful completion of our MTO approved BDE course, you will qualify for possible insurance discounts. However, because every driver’s situation is different, the only way to know for sure is to ask your insurance agent. In order to receive a discount, you will have to present to your insurance company proof of BDE course completion. A Driver’s Licence History is widely recognized by the insurance industry as proof of BDE course completion. You can request  a copy of your Driver’s Licence History at the nearest Service Ontario location. Service Ontario will charge a fee for this service.

I am on a tight budget. Do I have to pay the course fee all at once?

We have a payment plan available for our students.An  initial deposit of $300 on the first day of in-class sessions will get you started in the course. The balance of the payment is due prior to the completion of four hours of in-car lessons, at the latest.

How old do I have to be to start your program?

You can start the in-class sessions prior to turning 16 years old and/or prior to obtaining your G1 licence. To start the 10 hours in car portion, however, you must have a valid G1 licence. You must be at least 16 years of age to apply for your G1 licence.

What is included in your Beginner Driver Education (BDE) program?

Ontario law requires that the program include:

  • 20 hours of in-class instruction
  • 10 hours of in-car instruction
  • 10 hours of home work/independent study

How do I sign-up for a course?

How long do I have to finish the entire course?

You must complete the entire course (in-class, in-car and home work) within twelve months of your starting date.

I missed an in-class session. What should I do?

You will need to make up the in-class session that you a subsequent course. Please check out the Course Information page for upcoming course dates.

I hate class!!! Can I skip it?

If you are enrolled in the BDE course, NO!

How many students are in the car?

The in-car lessons are one-on-one, just you and the instructor.

When and how do I cancel an in-car appointment?

If you can’t make your in-car appointment, call or text your in-car instructor to reschedule your appointment. You must notify the instructor 24 hours in advance of the appointment in order to avoid the late cancellation fee.

Can I use the driving school vehicle for my road test?

Yes. There is an additional fee to do this. Please contact us for further details.
